The Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab is set to initiate a sight-seeing bus service in Lahore by the end of May, which will take tourists around the many landmarks and historical sites of the city.

According to a DawnNews report, the Development Corporation of Punjab is finalizing plans to launch tourist buses in Lahore under a new tour titled ‘One day – A journey of centuries.’

The buses will start their journey from the Lahore Fort at around 9am and will by sunset round the trip off at Liberty Market. The buses are to ply a tour route with designated stops, and each stop will be visited by a bus every half an hour. All the tourists will need to do is buy a one-day pass for a hundred rupees and can then hop on or off the buses at designated stops throughout the day.

At the moment four buses are being launched but if the project is successful, more buses might be added and the project might be started in other cities besides Lahore.

The planned bus-route includes most of Lahore’s well-known historical sites, from the Mughal heritage Badshahi Mosque to the Lahore Museum and the market of Anarkali.

The tourist buses have been covered with specially-designed skins depicting historical sites. Tourist guides will also be deputed to each bus.

A souvenir shop will also be set up in the bus, so that tourists can buy guide books and replicas of the monuments that visit. The TDCP intends to launch the bus service by the end of May, 2009.
