PAL awards to BB, Curman lauded
Islamabad: Literati, intellectuals,
scholars and distinguished people from different segments of the
society from within Pakistan and around the world have congratulated
Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL), and hailed the selection of
Benazir Bhutto for ‘The Quaid-i-Awam International Award for
Democracy’ and Swedish poet Peter Curman for ‘The Quaid-i-Azam
International Award for Literature.’
In a press statement, Chairman
Pakistan Academy of Letters Fakhar Zaman has said that the academy
has received a large number of congratulatory messages from Pakistan
and abroad through telephone and e. mails appreciating the
selection.
He said that the international award
committee deserves applause for the selection of most suitable
leader and poet in the field of democracy and literature for the
highest prestigious award of South Asia. He also informed that the
special ceremony to confer the awards will be held in consultation
with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza
Gilani. He said that Bilawal Zardari Bhutto and Peter Curman shall
be extended special invitation and requested to receive the
respective awards. Peter Curman is expected to receive the award in
person while Bilawal Bhutto would receive the award on behalf of his
mother Benazir Bhutto.
