MQM criticised over Karachi killings

QUETTA: The Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party has demanded of the government to ban the MQM, accusing it of being involved in the ‘target killing’ of Pakhtuns in Karachi. And it has criticised the PPP, ANP and JUI-F over what it calls their ‘criminal silence’ over the issue.

Addressing a rally here on Saturday, Dr Kaleemullah, Dr Hamid Achakzai, Qahar Wadan and Nasrullah Zeray claimed that the Pakhtun businessmen, labourers and transporters were insecure in Karachi because of what they called the MQM’s ‘acts of terror’.The PMAP leaders alleged that since 1985, the MQM leadership had been involved in the killing of Pakhtuns in Karachi. They accused the MQM of being involved in May 12 and April 8 incidents in Karachi.

They said that political groups had thought that the PPP, after coming into power, would bring the MQM leadership to justice for May 12 and April 8 events, but unfortunately the party formed alliances with it.

They criticised ANP and JUI-F for what they called ‘their criminal silence on the killing of Pakhtuns in Karachi’.The PMAP leaders condemned the target killing of Pakhtuns, Hazaras and settlers in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan and said the PMAP had always supported the struggle of Baloch nationalist political parties. They also condemned Baloch leaders’ killing allegedly by intelligence agencies.

ANP’s DEMONSTRATION
The Awami National Party organised a demonstration here on Saturday against the killing of its workers in Karachi.Carrying banners and placards, ANP workers gathered outside the press club and raised slogans against the Sindh government and MQM leadership.

Addressing the protesters, ANP leader Khudaidad said his party would continue its struggle for the rights of Pakhtuns in Karachi.Meanwhile, aerial firing created panic when some ANP workers were passing through the taxi stand area.Later speaking at a press conference, some ANP leaders condemned the firing incident. They said some elements had tried to sabotage the peaceful demonstration of the ANP.
