Kamal meets USAID official

KARACHI: City Nazim Mustafa Kamal met USAID Infrastructure Development Fund Deputy Director Edward Birgells, on Thursday.

Kamal briefed Birgells about various potential areas for development for reciprocal economic interests.

Birgells lauded Kamal for his strenuous struggle for developing the city. He told Kamal that the US Aid has analysing ways to fund different development and infrastructure projects in the city.

Kamal stressed the need for discovering new water resources, especially installation of the desalination plants for the city. He expressed his concern on acute paucity of water, the demand for which is rapidly rising due to the increase in the city’s population.

Kamal said Karachi is the seventh mega city of the developed world, but it lack a mass transit system. He said it is not within the limited resources of any local government around the world to develop such a system from its own resources, but the federal government carries the responsibility of ensuring presence of a mass transit system.
