DADU: The 14 death anniversary of the founder of Jeay Sindh Tehrik, GM Syed, was observed at his native village Sann on Saturday.

The JSQM-Arisar group and Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz held a joint gathering to observe the death anniversary.

A big rally led by Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz chairman Bashir Khan Qureshi and general secretary Dr Safdar Sarki arrived in Sann from Jamshoro and the party held a gathering in front of the grave of the nationalist leader.

GM Syed was a Sindhi nationalist, leftist and a revolutionary. He blended Sindhi nationalism with Communism and Sufism as he was himself a mystic.

GM Syed had proposed the Pakistan Resolution, 1940 in the Sindh Assembly, which ultimately resulted in the creation of Pakistan. However, he became the first political prisoner of Pakistan because of his differences with the leadership of the country, as he believed that they had deceived the Sindhis.

In 1971, disappointed with the national politics, GM Syed found no option but to demand the Right of Self Determination for the people of Sindh.

In 1973 he founded the ‘Jeay Sindh’ movement which was aimed at establishing an independent/autonomous Sindhi state (‘Sindhu Desh’).

Mr Syed is the author of more than sixty five books on numerous subjects, ranging from literature to politics, religion, culture, and other areas.
